Field Training Instructor Course
Overview
The Field Training Instructor (FTI) program is introduced to replace the Ocean Quest Global – Coral Propagation Trainer. The main reason for this development is to allow Ocean Quest Global trainer to expand their capability beyond
just propagating corals. In the old system, the coral propagation trainer is limited to the coral propagation course and workshops. It is a narrow corridor for personal development. The FTI program opened the perspective and allow
for broader personal development of our trainers. The FTI training is a lifelong personal development and its expansion is infinite.
The training is systematically dissected into stages and modules. When an individual enrolls in the FTI program they are required to finish the FTI foundation training. This is the training that is required for all FTIs to complete.
Once the foundation training is complete, the FTI will be taught two of Ocean Quest Global’s fundamental skills development. These two skills are Coral Propagation and Coral Nursery Development and Management. The FTI may then decide
their own expansion into the many skill development training.
Like all educators, the Ocean Quest Coral FTIs are our link to the community and our guardians of the marine environment. This is reflected in our Trainer’s Code of Ethics. Selected trainers shall be trained further to pursue higher
levels that enable them to train other trainers. These qualities are the strength of all our trainers. Besides restoring coral reefs through education the role of Ocean Quest Trainers is learning and understanding the dynamics of
local communities. This in turn will lead to solution finding for conservation. The Ocean Quest trainer represents Ocean Quest in our bid to save the coral reefs in a non-conflicting and fully organic approach. This means the trainer
shall continually find ways that benefit the community from what they are doing.
Course Structure
Course Requirements
All candidates enrolled in the trainer course will receive a pre-study kit. They are required to study all the materials and answer all the quizzes. Therefore, it is best to enroll at least one week ahead of the trainer course. This allows enough time for the student to study.
During the registration of the course, you will need:
- Have some writing material for taking note
- A hard disk drive with at least 60GB of space for storing teaching materials and videos
- Warm clothes (if the class is held in Air-conditioned room)
- Your picture in Jpg Format for your certification e-card
- Money for the course fee
- Complete and sign the student learning agreement form
You may need your own diving equipment (if you did not have one, you may be required to rent it) (This cost is not included in your Trainer course fee, please check with your instructor trainer prior to the course).
Some diving centers are affiliated with Ocean Quest Global. They, in their own initiative let you use their tank, weights and facility at no cost. However, there are courses conducted through diving centers that is not affiliated with Ocean Quest. These dive centers may charge a minimum fee for use of their tanks and facility. Please check with your Instructor Trainer prior to enrolling in the course.
Upon Completion
Before completing the course, you must ensure that you have received all the necessary materials to start your career as the Ocean Quest coral propagation trainer. The list of materials is listed below:

Upon completion of your course, you must ensure that all the necessary information for your certification is complete and submitted to the Instructor Trainer. This information is:
- A photograph of yourself (jpg)
- Your full name as you want in the certificate and your e-card
- Your email address
- Your mobile number

Who Can Join?
The student enrolling in the Ocean Quest Global – FTI course must:
- Be a certified dive professional with a minimum rating of Dive Master from one of the following Ocean Quest recognized certifying agencies*:
- Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI)
- National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI)
- World Diving Federation (CMAS)
- Scuba School International (SSI)
- British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC)
- Have completed the Ocean Quest coral propagation course.
- Completed and submit the medical assessment form provided by Ocean Quest Global
*Dive professionals from agencies other than the agencies listed above can apply by writing to Ocean Quest Global before they can enroll in the coral propagation trainer course. However, Ocean Quest Global also considers those highly experienced divers to qualify and enroll in the FTI training. This selection is based on the evaluation by the Ocean Quest Global team.
Course Fee
The Ocean Quest Global – Field Training Instructor course fee is US$ 1,200.
This fee is paid to your Instructor Trainer prior to the course. Before paying, your instructor trainer will require you to fill out and sign the student learning agreement form. Your instructor trainer will assist you in completing the form. After paying, please ensure that your instructor trainer provides you with a receipt.
Preparing For Field Training
Coral propagation is a physically strenuous activity. Therefore, you are required to be physically fit for strenuous underwater activity. It is best to pay attention in getting physically conditioned for this course. Get enough rest and do light exercise to keep in shape. If you are going to be using any new piece of diving equipment, you may want to consider testing it in the pool or doing a few recreational dives with them. If you have not been diving for prolonged periods, you are required to do a SCUBA Refresher course. Ensure that you can attain good buoyancy.
